About Direct Creative Group. Direct Creative Group (DCG) delivers independent creative consultation, across all channels and media, to nonprofit organizations and those who serve them. Although focused on creative positioning, brand, message, and technique, DCG’s range of service is broad, and includes high-level creative strategy, campaign-specific creative direction, facilitation of brainstorming sessions, and assistance in preparing and responding to RFPs. DCG also consults on the management and processes unique to creative staffing, and provides training and mentoring in direct response fundraising to creative specialists new to the nonprofit fundraising industry.
DCG Founder John Thompson is a 35-year veteran of the direct marketing industry, having served as the Director of Creative Services for the Richard A. Viguerie Company, President of his own creative firm, Direct Design, Inc., Marketing and Communications Director for the Environmental Law Institute, Group VP/Creative Director for Merkle Inc.’s nonprofit vertical, VP/Chief Creative Officer for Barton Cotton Fundraising, and VP Creative for CDR Fundraising Group. He is a frequent lecturer and industry author, and a former Board Member of the Direct Marketing Association of Washington.
John and his creative teams have created fundraising campaigns for a wide range of nationally recognized nonprofits, including American Cancer Society, Susan G Komen for the Cure, Feeding America, Christian Appalachian Project, Wounded Warrior Project, Shriners’ Hospital for Children, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Smithsonian Recordings, Museum of Modern Art, National MS Society, National Wildlife Federation, Audubon Society, Arthritis Foundation, and many others.
John is supported by, and is networked with, a variety of independent consulting associates and businesses in related specialties who are available as needed to assist DCG clients for specific solutions in digital, analytics, strategy, production, social and mobile.
